The pure breed cat

Why?

How is it possible to find the pure breed cat that suits you, that is, which goes with your personality and corresponds to what you are expecting from your new pet? Just read the following questions and answers, they will shed a new light on the subject.

Why buy a pure breed cat?

Your cat is a pure breed cat if he has a pedigree. The latter must have been issued by the LOOF (Livre Officiel des Origines Félines = French Book of Felines’Origins) if your cat was born in France.

The term « pure breed cat » for a cat that has no pedigree is illegal and considered a treachery in court.

All those cats result from a long and patient selection which has permitted to achieve healthy cats with various characters and multiple esthetics.

The price of a pure breed cat is the guarantee for its origins, health, balanced temperament. It also means you will have a competent person to turn to, one who will not find an escape when a problem arises with your companion

Is there a race that will suit me better than another?

No doubt there is a race that corresponds to you ! But before choosing a race think about your lifestyle and your personality.

*What do you expect from a cat ? what are your tastes?

*How much time can you spare for it?

*How available are you?

Then you have to get information about the available breeds, see whether that breed corresponds to your personality, your lifestyle, as, according to the breed there are active, talkative, calm or reserved individuals. The breed club is here to help you choose your companion.

Where can I find serious pure breed cat breeders?

Now that you have found the suitable breed, you have tofind your breeder.

Nevertheless, before falling for a cute ball of fur, you must get information about the cattery’s competence. You must be very rigorous and exacting when it’s time to choose your kitten and therefore its breeder.

The best way to find your dream cat is to contact a breed club. There you will get someone to listen to you and answer your questions as he /she is a breeder too.

The breed club will permit you to contact breeders, the range will be wide and serious enough so that you will be able to find your delight .In addition, a breed club will already have selected its members who must possess the national diploma necessary to become an official breeder.

Is a pure breed cat more delicate than an alley cat?

If the small cat in the street looks strong to you , it is because its brothers and sisters more delicate than it have already died , most often they were abandoned by their mother at birth as they were ill or condemned. This is commonly called natural selection.

An alley cat which lives outdoors has a life expectancy of three years as far as diseases, heredity and everydaylife accidents are concerned.

Consequently, the pure breed cat is not more delicate than any alley cat. It is better taken care of when a baby, better fed and receives much attention from its breeder. Its life expectancy is much higher. Furthermore, the serious breeder selects its reproduceurs with health and temperament in mind . This leads to the fact that it has become frequent to see neutered kittens on sale, these are not meant to breed from, though they comply with the standard, they are not close enough to the ideal the breeder wants to achieve.

Do I have to keep my cat indoors?

Yes, it is preferable as in this way you will keep your cat away from outdoor hazards :

*Malevolent neighbour,

*Dangerous dog,

*Alley cats carrying diseases,

*Thefts,

*Cars etc...

What would happen if all the dog owners let their animals wander ? What would our environment look like ? Does a dog get brought up on its own in the street ?

The pure breed cat finds itself comfortable indoors with man’s close intimacy, in that respect some breeds are more demanding than others

There are more than sixty breeds to please the cat lover, we can list them in three large categories. Here we introduce you to some of them thanks to the cooperation of dynamic breed clubs, you are welcome to visit their web site so as to get better knowledge of the breed they are fond of:

Longhair Cats

The Persian

The Persian is endowed with a placid temperament which shows through its big soft eyes.It is not talkative, its voice is one that never disturbs. It is not a good climber, but it enjoys wandering calmly from room to room tiptoeing behind its master. It is the ideal companion better suited to cosy interiors than to adventure grounds. Take notice : so as to retain its beauty, its fur must be taken care of daily otherwise entangled, ungraceful, uncomfortable knots will form.

The Exotic Shorthair

Though the Exotic Shorthair has a mild and placid temperament, breeders find it more precocious, more lively and fonder of playing than persian kittens. Neverthless it is a calm cat easy to live with and particularly well adapted to indoor life. A notable difference from its longhair brother : grooming, no long fur to disentangle! Yet, like for the persian, its eyes must be taken care of daily. One must then clean the eye outlines with a suitable lotion.

Semi longhair Cats

The Norwegian

The Norwegian has been living for centuries in Scandinavia, it has adapted to city life and does not need large open spaces. It is a big cat with wild looks, it has strong bones and muscles, these characteristics make it fit for playing and and at that it makes one wonder! First of all it charms people, its look, its behaviour and attitudes remind us that though it is a feline, it is the beautiful companion for which many have fallen. Its double textured fur requires weekly care.
